Last week Emily, an RUF 2nd year intern, and Chris Garriot, Maryland’s campus minister, cooked up a Thanksgiving dinner of two turkeys and all the fixin’s for close to 40 students before break. This is one of their favorite events of the year. After dinner they stuffed themselves into Chris’ living room and had a time of singing hymns and praise song interspersed with students giving thanks to the Lord for His goodness this year. Time after time students gave thanks for the community of believers they have found and the depth of friendship experienced in Christ. Some highlights were the many new students who attended and the sheer diversity of the group God is building here.
This semester they have done consistent outreach each week seeking to break down walls with snacks and a smile and enter into meaningful conversations. Every other Tuesday morning they have given out coffee and munchkins and they have done several Midnight hot dog & snack tables near the bars on the edge of campus. The purpose here has been to bless the campus, knock down some barriers and help students engage. There have been some good interactions and one new student we met at the Midnight Dogs tent has started coming to our Supper club and guys small group.
Praise the Lord for what He is doing on University of Maryland’s campus!
